About seven years ago, I started to build a website. It would be about running, as I’m a marathon runner. I had some experience of programming but was new to web design. By 2005, I’d built a basic website with some PHP scripts which worked fine, but the design was weak. I was nowhere near my goal of an awesome website …
So I started reading about CSS, XML, Javascript, Ajax, etc. Fascinating, but confusing. I looked around for a web course but couldn’t find anything that was in English and reasonably-priced. Then I hit the wall and almost gave up. Until a few months ago I found the WCB site by accident. I went to their Open Day and signed up for the Intermediate Web Design course.
I really enjoyed this course, because Carl demystifies all the jargon and tells you exactly what you need to know to make a professional website.Adam G – Marathon Runner
And he has a real passion for web design, which makes even mundane stuff like cascading rules seem interesting. It was like someone giving me a tour of a place that I thought I already knew but I was seeing it from a totally new angle. I also learned about best practices and web standards which I hadn’t paid much attention to before. Then I started the WordPress training, which is really useful too, and hope to attend further classes.
Thanks to Carl, I’ve broken through the wall and I’m running again.
I hope you will all visit my new site www.asiamarathons.com – (which is a work in progress)
