Interview
How long have you been a designer?:
Professionally for 2 years. Unprofessionally about 6.
About how many sites have you made?:
Around 10.
What made you want to be a web designer?:
I kind of fell into it. I used to upload photos onto the web for mates (before Myspace or Facebook) and then it started from there.
What was the first web site you made?:
When I was 12, it was for my basketball team.
The next one was when I was 16 and it was the PartyPhotos website I mentioned above.
What would be the ideal web project for you?:
I recently had a client who let me have a lot of freedom and that was ever s
o pleasant so I guess that would be good.
What projects are you currently working on?:
At present I have a few design jobs that I am working on… I am in the process of designing a luxury refillable water bottle for a client in the US, a logo for a supermarket in Curacao, a logo for a barn maker in the US, a website for a Wedding Florist & Decorator, a website for a Celebrant, a photography job for Tupperware and I also have got two separate leads for a vodka bottle design and also a rum based liquor bottle, plus about 5 other logo design leads which will hopefully come through. I may also be launching a new blog among a few other surprises.
What is best part of being a web designer?:
Doing what you love and getting paid for it.
Tell us about your best as experience as a web designer?:
Receiving a wow from clients first time around.
Tell us about your worst as experience as a web designer?:
Losing a client based on money matters.
What are the most important things to learn to be a good web designer?:
You must know many things, but keep in mind nothing is ever static, you have to keep learning and learning as the technology progresses.
What advise would you give to our Web Courses Bangkok students:?
The biggest piece of advice that I would give comes in a ‘package’ based from the little things that I have learned over my short career as a designer. These would be perfect for someone just starting out… Don’t undervalue your work. Always keep learning & don’t be a static learner… do this by reading books, magazines, blogs and by practicing. Collect & Share things. Teach others. Never give up. Keep practicing. Again, keep practicing.
