There are big difference between Illustrator and Photoshop. I use personally Illustrator for something that I needed for drawing. I like to design in Photoshop, but I am horrible at drawing in both Illustrator and Photoshop. Sometimes I have to embed some drawing in for my design. In that case, what can I do since I cannot draw? For example: Recently I needed to make dragon logo. Here is what I got using both Illustrator and Photoshop. This is the logo i made combining both Illustrator and Photoshop.
Step 1
I know that I cannot draw dragon either in Illustrator and Photoshop. After that, I just searched on Google dragon image. This is what I found. It looks like size is small, details are not that clear, color is dull.
Step 2
I cannot use dragon image exactly same as i found because of copyright, size and so on. I want dragon to look darker, big and make some changes. Therefore I have to make dragon which look like my own drawing and design. Photoshop cannot function as good as I expected in that case, but Illustrator is good.
This is how I changed what I found online in Illustrator.
Step 3
I wanted background to look like circle. At the same time, I wanted to cut wooden background in circle shape. Illustrator can cut wooden background into circle, but I get used to Photoshop more. Therefore, I cut square wood to be circle in Photoshop.
Step 4
Now we import dragon from Illustrator to Photoshop and add text. Put them in front of circle wood.
Step 5
I applied bevel effect for dragon to make it look like part of circle logo.
In conclusion, I just wanted to show why you have to combine Illustrator and Photoshop together sometimes. Combining them would solve your problem much faster and easier. For example I cannot draw dragon, but using just image that I found online, I can change the appearance little bit in Illustrator and make it look original. Then I decided to use Photoshop for final outcome.
