The early bird catches the worm

On Thursday, 12th May, we were invited by the Stenden Rangsit University to hold a session about ‘Digital Marketing on Events’ for more than 60 students from Europe. For many, it has been their last class of their exchange program, before they are leaving the land of smiles again and take their smiles back home.

It all began with a lovely, but early ride at 07.30am from Lumphini to Rangsit, in which our team could relax one last time, before the crowd of undergraduates had to be entertained. We were expected to arrive just around 9am, but Bangkok and its street have spared us from the traffic and could meet Jens Dallmann (german professor at Stenden Rangsit University; our organizer and guide that day) at 08.15am.

With a coffee and some small – talk, we looked over the schedule for the day once more. The classroom for the day has been big with a great, huge window front which allows for some panorama views.

Stenden Rangsit University – Layout of the day

  • 9am – Personality test to let the students better understand what type of individuals you are facing and how it can affect your group behaviour within your event planning group
  • 9.15am – 9.45am – The undergraduates have been organizing events and we asked them for their status quo. They all have been in different stages, but with very interesting event topics such as ‘Dutch Food Festival’’, ‘Designer Dinner Event’ to ‘Education/Technology – Networking event for start-ups and investors’. Additonally, we reviewed successful marketing videos and discussed, why and how they were great. What kind of song did they use? How energetic was the video? Which feeling does it create, when watching? Which message did it deliver and how clear was it?
  • 9.45am – 10.30am – workflow chart creation for an event plan. Until what day which steps has to be finished

  • 10.30am – 10.50am – Coffee Break. Jens Dallmann has been so kind and brought some snacks for everybody to keep us hydrated and well – fed
  • 10.50am – 11.20am – Just right after the coffee break, we introduced the students to the elevator pitch. In pairs of two, they had exactly 30 seconds to convince the other person of joining their event. Details like What is the event about, where is it located, what day and time and what are the benefits, had to be expressed to make sure to convince any personality. That was another practical illustration of the personality test earlier that morning.

  • 11.20am – 12.30pm – We used that time to keep continue to work on a very detailed workflow to determine which exact tasks have to be done in which areas by whom.
  • 12.30pm – 01.30pm – Lunch break
  • 01.30pm – 02.00pm For a soft, but informative start right after the lunch break, we introduced cool websites that you can use for your digital marketing and how to make use of them. Here are a few examples:
  • The students were asked to create a quick, but professional facebook banner with the help of those free tools.
  • 02.00pm – 02.40pm – The groups once more reviewed their workflow chart. Each group picked one consultant, who would go to each group clock-wise to give feedback to other group’s workflows

  • 02.40pm – 3pm – Creation of a 30 second radio advertisement to advertise their event and present in front of the class
  • 3pm – 3.20 – Q&A Session

We listened to many catchy, funny and creative advertisements, which rounded the day off perfectly and put a smile on everybody’s faces.

Shakira Johnson, a student from the Stenden Rangsit University, summarized the day with Web Course Bangkok as followed:

“What a wonderful active and informative workshop. It was so refreshing to really participate and use our groups imagination in order to create an actual SM/PR/Marketing plan in such little time. Carl was an inspiration!”

Web Courses Bangkok hopes that all students, that participated, have learned viable aspects of digital marketing on events and most importantly, enjoyed day.
